1 Glass Cloth
A beautiful highly lustrous material, which is manufactured of glass fibres in France, Austria, Italy and the U.S.A. Mostly used for church decoration. The thread is drawn out of a molten bar of glass at 200 yards a minute. The weaving is done on looms. The most beautiful shades are obtained while the glass is in a state of fusion, before drawing. -

6 Glass Cloths
Linen fabrics for kitchen use for which the flax fibre is best suitable because no lint remains on the glasses or dishes after drying. Generally woven without colour but some cloths have narrow stripings and others have the words " Glass Cloth " woven in the fabric. A standard cloth is made 52 ends and 60 picks per inch, 35's lea warp and weft. When colour is used a doubled cotton yam is found to be most suitable. The weaves may be plain, 2 & 2 twill, basket or small matt, or huckaback. The cotton imitations are woven from heavy yams such as 10's to 18's warp and weft and about 52 ends and 40 picks per inch. -
7 Counting Glass
A small instrument used for counting the number of threads to the inch in a fabric. The Manchester Testing House method is as follows: - The glass is placed in such a position that the extreme edge of the first thread can only just be seen; this is counted as the first thread. If the actual number of threads per inch is required, there is no better method than to measure off six inches, and count all the threads from end to end. This can be done under a glass, marking each tenth thread as a check upon the result; the ink marks should be at equal distances apart if the counting is correct, and in other ways this method facilitates correctness. At the, Manchester Testing House ten counts of reed or pick are generally made from different parts of the cloth, and the average of these is accepted. -
8 Pulped Cloth
Calico, having a coating of paper, while in a state of pulp, run upon its upper surface by a paper machine, which causes them to adhere firmly together. It is used for purposes which require more strength than can be obtained in paper, especially the manufacture of emery and glass cloths. -
